Whether you are brand new to eyelash extensions or a regular connoisseur, it is important to keep your lashes looking clean and full. Like everything, eyelash extensions need a little TLC to ensure they reach their full potential.
‘How long do lash extensions normally last?’ Lashes are delicate so the answer is up to you and how well you take care of them. With proper care, eyelash extensions can last for up to six weeks!
There are many key components to keeping your lashes looking full and beautiful.
Keep your extensions as dry as possible for at least 24-48 hours after application. Water will react with your eyelash extensions causing them to flash cure. When flash cure occurs, the bond will become more brittle, causing your lashes to break off much quicker. Try to avoid spas, showers, humidity, and steamy environments.
After the 48 hour mark, your extensions are basically waterproof. If you are someone that is constantly in a pool or hot spa, your lashes will not last as long.
Avoid activities that involve constant rubbing of your eyes.
Make sure to use oil-free products of your face, specifically cleansers and makeup removers. We suggest using our Eyelash Cleanser Foam. It gives you optimal lash retention, boosts natural lash health, it is oil free and meant for all skin types.
Blotting papers, oil-control moisturizer, and mattifying lotions should be your best friend when trying to tackle oily skin. The more oil you keep away from your lashes, the longer the glue will hold.
It’s important to make sure you don’t leave any products near your lashes as they could affect the lash glue’s ability to hold. Properly clean your lashes morning and night for optimal lash retention.
As always, if there are any questions or concerns give the Eyelash Club a call!
Do not use oil based products or waterproof mascara on your extensions. Although there is mascara made for eyelash extensions, we suggest avoiding mascara all together. The oily properties can weaken the glue bond holding your extensions to your regular lash, which can make them fall out.
Do not use makeup wipes, baby wipes, or cotton pads to remove makeup off of your extensions.
Do not remove extensions by yourself. Removing extensions by yourself can really damage your natural lashes and rip them out. We offer free removal to all of our members and only $30 removal for non members. Give us a call if you need a lash break!
Do not wear strip lashes on top or under your eyelash extensions. They will rip out your extensions along with your natural lash in the removal process.
Lash retention is one of the most important things to our clients. After all, who wants their lashes to fall out prematurely? Lash retention is just how long eyelash extensions last on the natural lash before falling out. The Eyelash Club in Tempe, Arizona only uses the best for your lashes to give them the best chance. There are many other helpful tips and tricks to keeping your lashes at their best.
Lash Glue affects retention.
You may think the most important thing would be a good adhesive, but if only it were that easy. There are other factors to lash retention like temperature, using the glue properly, and preparing the lashes properly. Adhesives work differently in different temperatures and humidities. Most glues work best in 40- 50% humidity. There are other glues that work in higher humidities too. Your lash tech is an expert in knowing what glues work best in your climate.
Using the right amount of adhesive is very important. Too much and you can cause irritation and lashes will stick together. On the other hand too little won’t place well and the lashes will come off as you brush them. If you can see the glue on your lashes thats the #1 sign it is too much.
Not only does the glue have to be in the right environment, applied with the correct amount, but even the timing of a lash extension going from glue to natural lash is important. A lash that has taken too much time after the glue is applied will become half cured and not bond as well to the natural lash. This can be a big reason for bad retention.
Clean those lashes!
Clean lashes are super important for good retention as well. Clean lashes give your extensions the best surface to bond to. Any makeup residue or oils will compromise the bond of your extensions. Always start your appointment with clean lashes. We recommend Eyelash Club‘s lash cleanser. It’s gentle enough for everyday use while giving a small amount of hydration to the skin. Ask your lash tech if you would like to try it before your next appointment!
Lash extensions are a great way to shorten your beauty routine and feel fabulous without a full face of makeup on. Skip the mascara and eyeliner and look naturally beautiful with minimal work. However, for people that have never had lash extensions there are certain things you must and shouldn’t do to keep your lashes at their best.
What’s the do’s and don’ts of a fresh set of lash extensions?
First major rule of lash extensions, avoid getting lashes wet for the first 24 hours. The lash glue is still slowly curing for a minimum of 12 hours. To get the longest lasting hold you do not want to disturb this process. It can take 24 to 48 hours at most until the lash extension glue is completely cured. Try to avoid anything that may effect the cure of your lashes such as, working out, steam rooms, crying, rubbing your eyes, using any oil based product near your eyes etc.
Do not get your lashes wet for 24 hours
Do not apply any aftercare product for 24 hours (including lash extension sealer)
Avoid strong wind
Resist touching the lashes
This may seem like a lot of rules to follow but after your initial 24 hours the rules are very simple.
How to clean lash extensions?
Use an oil-free lash cleanser explicitly formulated for eyelash extensions, such as Eyelash Club’s lash cleanser for $14.95. In the morning and evening, apply 1 pump of foam cleanser to each eye and gently wash them to ensure all debris and oils have been removed. Make sure to close your eyes to avoid getting cleanser in them. It also helps to do one eye at a time so you can still see what you’re doing. Rinse your eyes with water, then brush your extensions with a spoolie to keep them fluffy and detangled. This is the single most important step to keep the retention of your lashes.
Clean every morning and night
No oil based cleansers
Can mascara be applied to lash extensions?
Technically the answer is yes, but our answer is no. If you are still attached to the idea of mascara there are some mascaras that are formulated for lash extensions, however that does not mean it won’t cause premature loss of your extensions. Our advice is to ditch your mascara permanently. As long as you have your lash extensions you will never need mascara again. Mascara will clump the lashes together and cause major extension loss. Your extensions will always look much better before applying mascara since lash extensions are to be used as a replacement for mascara.
If you follow all these tips your lashes will have the best retention possible. If you have any more questions feel free to reach out to your Eyelash Club lash tech for help or more information.
Your lashes are on a lash cycle which means they naturally fall out at the end of their cycle. You naturally lose around 1 – 5 lashes everyday. You lose approximately 20% of your lashes every 2 weeks. After 30 days you have gone through a full lash cycle. The cycle works in three stages; growth, transition, and resting. At the end of a resting phase the natural lash will fall out and be replaced with a new lash. Your natural lashes continue this cycle as normal even with lash extensions attached to them. Eyelash extensions don’t actually make your lashes fall out. They will simply fall out with your natural lash on its cycle. If you are losing more than 3- 5 lashes a day there may be something wrong and we recommend talking with your Eyelash Club lash tech.
Do Eyelash extensions ruin your natural lashes?
No, lash extensions will only hurt your lashes if they are applied incorrectly. This is why it’s crucial you go to a reliable lash tech. In fact your lashes may actually become healthier due to you not applying/ removing mascara or strips on a daily basis. Make sure you are following proper after care instructions after a fresh set or fill. Some things included are not rubbing your eyes, to make sure your lash extensions don’t fall out prematurely. Be sure not to get your lashes wet for a minimum of 24 hours after your lashes have been applied to assure the glue is fully set. Other complications you might experience could be from the glue irritating your eyes. If you feel any irritation at all during the application process let your lash tech know immediately. Allergic reactions to the glue can become severe, so if you naturally already have sensitive skin be sure to let your lash tech know so they can use sensitive glue on you. The main thing you need to do is make sure you have a good lash tech that has experience with lashing. All lash techs at the Eyelash Club have hundreds of hours of training to ensure the health of your natural lashes. Check out our lash tech’s work on our instagram @Eyelashclubdotcom.
Do Eyelash extensions make your natural lashes shorter?
Your lashes should never have any sort of damage from your extensions. The two biggest things to keep your lashes strong and healthy are to take care of them and make sure your lash tech is properly qualified. To take care of your lashes it’s important to be gentle while cleaning, sleeping, and only use gentle products without oils around your eyes. When getting your lashes done, you should have the extensions applied to fully isolated natural lashes. Your natural lashes are all growing at different speeds. If extensions are glued to more than one lash, this will cause irritation and pain as your lashes are growing as they will grow at different speeds and start to pull the other out.
Overall your extensions won’t make your natural lashes shorter but if you have any concerns about your lashes or any discomfort at all be sure to voice that to your Eyelash Club technician. If they dismiss you or seem unhelpful, immediately ask for a removal and go to another lash tech. Eyelash extensions that are applied properly should never be painful or damage your natural lashes.
When scheduling your Full Set lash appointment be sure to allow enough time before your next engagement. Full Sets tend to take between 2 and 3 hours depending on the lash style you want. Before you can get your new set of lashes done, you need to come to your appointment prepared. This means making sure you aren’t wearing any makeup around your eyes and that your lashes are properly cleaned with a mild soap like our Eyelash Club Lash Cleanser that is available for $9.95. Once at the Eyelash Club for your appointment, your tech will use a sensitive skin-safe tape to keep your bottom lashes out of the way before starting. They will then begin taking individual lashes and gluing the lash extension to it. It sets into place and they continue around each eye until the desired look is achieved. You are welcome to bring in a blanket or neck pillow to ensure you are comfortable throughout the 2 hour process.
How to care for them
After you’ve gotten your set of lashes done, it’s first important that you don’t touch them for the first few hours to avoid getting oils from your hand on them. In the next 24 hours it’s important that you don’t get them wet or too warm. The glue needs 24 hours in the proper climate to fully sure correctly and ensure the best retention of your lashes. After this point, in order to keep your lashes looking good, you should be washing them with Eyelash Clubs oil-free lash cleanser every day. You can wear makeup, but we recommended staying away from oil based products around the eyes and definitely no mascara on your lash extensions. If you follow these recommendations you should only need a fill about every two weeks. Eyelash Club offers unlimited free fills for their members so you can go in twice a week to get your fill if you would like to have an ever- full look to your lash line.
How they’re removed
To get your lashes removed you should book an appointment with a professional, as trying to remove them at home can be very damaging to your lashes and eyes. Once you’re with a professional tech, they’ll start by putting eye pads under your eyes to protect the surrounding skin, as well as taping your bottom lashes down to keep them out of the way. The tech will then apply the glue remover using a micro swab. After it sits for a couple minutes, the tech will use a lint-free swab to brush out the extensions. Then your lashes are thoroughly rinsed to ensure there’s no left over glue or remover. After about 40 minutes you will be back to your natural lashes!
To get the best results, you need an experienced lash technician, who cares about safety, and a beautiful result. Certified lash artists spend thousands of dollars on their education and hundreds of hours practicing; first on mannequins and then on real people. Are you sure you are ready to face the result of your own lash work, doing this with no previous experience? Not only do you risk giving yourself subpar lashes, you risk losing a lot of your own natural lashes. Lash extension glue is very dangerous if not used properly. Not having the proper qualifications or experience it’s possible to get an allergic reaction to the glue while in the middle of doing your lashes. This will cause your eyes to swell and be extremely painful. In order for someone to put on their own lash extensions, they usually do this with their eyes open or not fully closed. This creates space for the fumes from the glue to enter the eye. And even worse so, could cause the glue to get in your eye which can lead to going blind. Not only can the glue be a danger to your eyes but the sharp tweezers used to apply these extensions could also poke your eye. Instead of running the major risk of damaging your eyes by doing extensions on yourself, you can get them done the safe way by coming into the Eyelash Club to get a full set for $114 with an entire month of free fills. Can I do lash extensions on myself?
Applying lash extensions on your own lashes while looking at a mirror is an extremely difficult task to do properly. Lash extensions are done by applying one extension on only a single natural lash. That level of precision is why your lash artists spend many hours training; this is not an easy task to achieve, especially doing it on your own lashes. You’re likely to glue several natural lashes together, which would create a difficult end result that isn’t healthy for your eyes.
Since your lashes all grow and shed at different speeds, if you glued one extension to a group of lashes it would cause a lot of pain and irritation to the lash line because of each lash’s different speed. However the pain might not even be the worst part. Long term improper application could force your natural lashes to fall out and regrow incorrectly or never regrow at all. This will leave a permanent scar which creates a forever bald spot in your lash line in turn giving you thinner and thinner natural lashes.
Can I safely remove eyelash extensions at home?
Simply said; you should never try and remove your lash extensions yourself. Some websites may recommend things like coconut oil or vaseline to help loosen the glue and get rid of a few extensions, but you should never tug or pull on any extension. Doing this can lead to you pulling out your natural lashes. Since extensions are attached to an individual hair, you are risking pulling out a lot of these which could cause noticeable bald spots in your lash line. Your extensions will eventually all grow out as a part of your natural lash cycle. Typically this process takes about 6-8 weeks and is the safest “at home” removal. At the Eyelash Club, we offer free extension removal for our members. An experienced lash tech can ensure proper removal without any of your natural lashes falling out. If you are unable to go to a professional for any reason, a safe way to help speed up the natural shed of your lashes is by taking a hot, steamy shower. This will help loosen the glue, so that you can then take a clean spoolie with a tiny amount of coconut oil and brush through your lashes. This will slowly help the lashes release over time and safely assist the lash extensions to come off your natural lashes without causing extensive damage.

Right After a Full Set/Fill
If you have just received a full set of fresh lashes, or a fill, you will want to wait 24-48 hours before running them under water. The lash adhesive is waterproof, and meant for these kind of activities, but since the glue is still fresh it needs time to fully sit. This is a standard time period before fully allowing water to run through them.
When showering, allow as much water to run through your lash extensions as you want because they too need to be cleaned. There can easily be unnoticeable bacteria or dirt stuck in between your extensions. Making sure that you clean your lashes is just as important as cleaning your body. You want to make sure you avoid heavy water pressure on your extensions.
You should keep in mind that any activity that involves steam, or heat, will loosen the bond of your lash extensions. Activities such as hot yoga, or going into a sauna are not usually recommended when your lashes are freshly applied. The more moisture you allow on your extensions the more chance of the adhesive wearing down. This is completely normal as any lash glue is not permanent. These are some tips to keep in mind with lash extensions.
When going into your eyelash appointment it is best to have a good idea of the style of lashes you want! Understanding the difference of each eyelash extension option you have available to you will help you make this decision. Everyone has a unique eye shape and face shape. These factors will allow you to determine which of the 3 styles best fits you. If you are still unsure, your lash tech will give you her best opinion on what would be best for your set of eyes.
If you are looking for a more simple look, then classic lash extensions is the style for you! Although these are the least dramatic set of lashes you can get, they are still noticeable and full. The whole point of getting eyelash extensions is so you can achieve the look as if you are wearing mascara/false lashes. The classic lash set is for those who do not want as full or dramatic lashes. These lashes will provide you with just enough length to be recognizable, yet subtle at the same time. If it is your first time getting lash extensions, it is recommended that you start off with classic to see how you like them.
A hybrid set of lash extensions are the perfect blend of fluffy and subtle lashes. This style is not overwhelmingly intense, and still gives your eyes an extra pop. You get the luxury of having full lashes, while not being so intense.
Now for volume! Out of the three styles, volume lash extensions are the most full and fluffy. If you want that dramatic look, as if you are always wearing false lashes then this is the style for you! The volume set is the most dramatic, as the most lash extensions are applied with this style. Your lashes will be both thicker and longer in length with a volume set.
No matter what style extensions you chose to get, the after care process is the same for all. Make sure you are cleaning your lashes a minimum of once a day with a foam cleanser in order to keep your lashes fresh and looking brand new each and every day! 🙂
With eyelash extensions you get the luxury of having beautifully full lashes 24/7! There are many myths regarding eyelash extensions that you should be aware of. Lash extensions should be pain-free and hassle-fee. It is important to set the record straight on these false interpretations on extensions.
One myth that needs to be addressed before deciding to apply eyelash extensions is that they ruin your natural lashes. This is completely untrue. If your eyelash extensions are applied correctly and properly, they do not ruin the health of your natural lashes. Your own natural lash thickness and length should be taken into consideration before choosing the proper styles and fibers specifically for you. In order for there to be no damage to your natural lashes, the fibers should be 3mm longer than your own lashes. If you choose to wear longer lashes for a long period of time, they might weigh down your lash roots.
Your lashes should not have too much glue on them or else they will become irritated. Make sure that your lash tech does your lashes by going through each individual lash. This allows for a more clear and clean set of extensions. Your lashes are constantly growing even with your lash extensions. So it is important that you clean them and take proper care of your extensions.
Be sure not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and may actually damage your natural lashes. If you notice that your lashes are diminishing over time, there are lash serums to help with growth. With the proper technique you should have no worries about your natural lashes falling out. This is a myth that makes potential users hesitant. It is all about the proper lash care and the lash techs expertise.
